DOWNEY — Plans for a new multifamily development can now move forward after the City Council unanimously approved a zone change for the property Tuesday night.

Twelve new rental townhome units – split within six separate three-story buildings – will now be constructed at 7224 Florence Ave., including work on landscaping, parking (30 spaces overall), and traffic circulation improvements.

Each side-by-side unit will be 1,701 square feet, and will include a 400-square foot two-car garage, 110-square feet of storage, and a 67-square foot balcony.

The Planning Commission voted on the project back in June of this year, also giving the project a unanimous vote, albeit after adding a requirement that electrical conduits be added within the garages and throughout the project site for future installation of electric vehicle charging stations.

The council’s final vote tally came to 3-0, with Mayor Rick Rodriguez and Councilwoman Claudia Frometa absent.
