Tim Hutcherson of Downey Nissan recognized with Shared Values Award
DOWNEY - The Downey Unified Board of Education recognized Tim Hutcherson, general manager of Downey Nissan, with the Shared Values Award in the area of Relationships and Partnerships at this month’s Board Meeting held on Feb. 6.
Selected for this award for the continuous support of students within Downey Unified, Downey Nissan has provided numerous student scholarships and donated multiple vehicles for DUSD’s Automotive Career Technical Education (CTE) program.
“We are so grateful that Downey Nissan has provided these tools for our students,” expressed Connie Quintero, assistant principal at Downey High School who presented Hutcherson with the award. “Hands-on learning is important for our students’ future because it provides them with real-world experience prior to graduation.”
This organization has provided over $10,000 in student scholarships over the last few years, even having representatives present to personally distribute these scholarships to students during various awards nights. This school year alone, Downey Nissan has donated two used Nissan vehicles to be used for educational purposes within Downey High School’s Automotive Engineering program.
“We hope that in the near future we will be able to provide other equipment and tools to work on the vehicles previously provided,” stated Hutcherson. “It is our goal to provide these tools to educate students so, once graduating from high school, we have the chance to recruit them as they enter the workforce.”
DUSD Superintendent Dr. John Garcia echoed Hutcherson’s statement saying, “It is very import to establish these types of partnerships with local businesses so our students gain real-word experience, which in turn, helps us sustain the top-notch CTE programs within Downey Unified.”
