Tim, Barbara Hill named 'Parents of the Year'
DOWNEY -- Tim and Barbara Hill, parents of seven children and active community volunteers, have been named Parents of the Year for Downey. The couple was honored at the Aug. 11 City Council meeting.
The Hills were nominated by the principal’s office at Downey High School, who said the couple “exemplify the wonderful contribution of good parenting” while volunteering “countless hours over the years to sports, clubs and religious education, not only for their own children, but also serving the children of the community.
“Their generous involvement with the community of Downey has provided inspiration to many other people besides their own family. Here is a couple that deserves the honor of being recognized as Parents of the Year.”
National Parents Day was established in 1994 by President Bill Clinton and both Houses of Congress. National Parents Day has been recognized as a recurring perennial day of commemoration on the 4th Sunday of July since it was signed into law in 1994.
