Tickets still available for symphony concert
DOWNEY – The Downey Symphony Orchestra’s final concert of the 57th season is Saturday, April 11, at 8 p.m., in the Downey Theatre. The winner of the Downey Symphony Young Artist Concerto Competition, 18-year-old violinist Hao Zhou, will play Jean Sibelius’ “Violin Concerto.” The Orchestra will present Johannes Brahms’ “Symphony no. 1.”
The 2015 Baton Auction Winner Jess Zakira Wise, granddaughter of the Symphony’s previous Music Director Tom Osborn, will conduct Johann Strauss, Jr.’s “Radetzky March” to open the concert.
An art exhibit under the title “Rebirth—Life, Death, and Transformation,” featuring work by local artists, will be available for viewing in the lobby. A champagne reception will follow the concert to celebrate the completion of the season and give patrons a chance to meet the musicians.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m, with a pre-concert talk by Music Director Sharon Lavery at 7:15 p.m. Good seats are still available at the Theatre Box Office (open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and at 6:30 p.m. Saturday), by phone at (562) 861-8211, or on line at downeysymphony.org.
Tickets are $35 or $30, and student tickets are $10.
