The joy of a gala fundraiser dinner
DOWNEY - It isn't often that I refer to my "Joy of Cooking" for a word, but that is just what I did to prepare this article. I'll explain:First of all, on Feb. 27 (that's about three weeks hence) at 6 p.m. the Downey Symphony Guild will produce another annual gala dinner fundraiser named "Celebrating American Freedom." It will take place at the Woman's Club of Downey and the pleasure of your company is requested. Sometimes inserting a bit of French into our rich language is just the right touch, and so it is that the star of the American dinner will be boeuf bourguignonne (thanks, "Joy"), accompanied by a salad, green beans, hot biscuits, cherry crisp with ice cream, and coffee. Illusions by Allen will entertain with incredible magic tricks and a silent auction with many unusual treasures to be featured. All this, of course, is to benefit Music in the Schools and the Downey Symphony Orchestra. Price of the dinner is $65 per person and $10 for children under 12. Your reservations are requested by Feb. 19 with checks made out to Downey Symphony Guild and mailed to 9700 Garnish Dr., Downey, CA 90240. For more information, please call (562) 861-6507. ********** Published: February 6, 2009 - Volume 7 - Issue 42
