Suspect arrested for Big Lots armed robbery

DOWNEY -- Downey Police have arrested a man suspected of robbing the Big Lots store on Firestone Boulevard last Sept. 9. 

The armed robbery occurred at around 7 p.m. and the suspect got away before police could arrive. 

Downey detectives identified 44-year-old Downey resident Mark Nixon Jr. as their suspect. On Sept. 19, patrol officers spotted Nixon driving westbound on Stewart and Gray Road and arrested him after conducting a felony stop. 

Police found a handgun and narcotics inside his vehicle, authorities said.
