Students urged to get tested before returning from spring break
DOWNEY — As students head into Spring Break next week, Downey Unified School District is asking students and staff to take a Covid-19 test before they return to campus.
Thanks to a partnership with the Los Angeles County of Public Health and the Los Angeles Office of Education, the district is distributing another round of rapid antigen tests for students and staff to take home before Spring Break next week.
The kits also come with a strong recommendation: take a test on April 18 before returning to campus on April 19.
“It’s a non-requirement; we’re not checking you at the door,” said Assistant Superintendent Dr. Roger Brossmer at the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday. “It’s just a strong recommendation. It’s really just a way for us to all keep each other safe.”
If students or staff test positive, they will be required to follow the current LA County Health Department guidelines for isolation.
