DOWNEY — Students will likely not be returning to school campuses at the start of the school year, according to Downey Unified.

With many COVID-19 related regulations in constant flux, DUSD has spent most of the summer with very few answers as to how the upcoming school year might look. It was only recently the District released some sort of potential solution to coronavirus safety concerns, offering a “hybrid” format that would see students physically in class for two days of the week.

However, protocols released by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health on Monday have Downey officials reevaluating their options, and according to a statement released by the district on Tuesday, has left the previously pitched “hybrid” model highly unlikely.

The district added that its anticipated Return to School Family survey would be delayed pending decisions to be made at the Board of Educations upcoming July 20 meeting.
