Student excels at Calvary

DOWNEY - Corrie Harb, a senior at Calvary Chapel Christian School in Downey, has been named a Commended Student in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program, school administrator Pastor Yuri Escandon has announced.Escandon will present Harb with a letter of commendation from the school and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for the academic promise. Commended Students, including Harb, placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2010 competition by taking the 2008 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. "Recognition of high-achieving students is essential to advancing educational excellence in our nation," a National Merit spokesperson said.
