Strawberry Fields, a new solo exhibit at Stay Gallery, opens Friday

DOWNEY — Stay Gallery is pleased to present Strawberry Fields: A Dedication through Letters and Dramas, a solo exhibition featuring the works Eduardo Viramontes – painter, illustrator and graphic designer for the renowned streetwear brand The Hundreds.

Strawberry Fields will run from November 8 – 27, with an opening reception on November 8 from 8 – 11p. The opening reception is supported by Topo Chico, the popular mineral water brand.

Strawberry Fields explores the concept of nostalgia through the use of color, texture and accustomed imagery. This exhibition also examines the specific dreamlike memories associated with growing up as an American of Mexican descent.

“Nostalgia and the beat of Los Angeles serve as a common thread throughout my work,” says Viramontes. “I recreate visual vernacular found amongst the city onto canvas and installations through multiple techniques and a wide array of uncommon tools, such as plastic bags as brushes.”

The varying techniques used in Strawberry Fields reveal an evolution of mediums explored throughout Viramontes’ artistic career, from mark making learned in his early years of painting graffiti to typography and design from his time in design school and throughout his professional career.

“The message conveyed through my work is to see beyond the surface of layers – explore the hidden and ask questions. There is always something deeper beneath the obvious,” states Viramontes. “I hope to connect with people through my work and inspire conversations. These works are my memories of being a Los Angelino, so hopefully people have flashbacks to similar memories that we’ve share.”
