DOWNEY — Stay Gallery’s first virtual exhibition, “human,” opens Friday, May 1, at 6 p.m.

The month-long exhibition features artworks from 26 people, ranging from artists in Downey to across the nation.

“This exhibition can be enjoyed from the comfort of your phone or computer,” said Juliana Canty, programs coordinator and lead curator for Stay Gallery. “You will have the ability to navigate through a 3D exhibition room that works similar to an augmented reality video game.

“Get up close to artwork, learn more about each piece and even support the artists by purchasing an original work or prints.”

The exhibition explores the concept of human connection in a time when social distancing is the new normal. Each artist offers a unique perspective on how our current collective experience impacts and reshapes our connection with nature, the people we love and ourselves.

“Despite our doors being closed, we’re adapting to the circumstances to continue bringing the community together through the power of art,” said Gabriel Enamorado, executive director of Stay Gallery. “In light of this, we created a way to make the arts virtually accessible to all.”

“human” opens May 1 and will be accessible at staygallery.org through May 31.
