State rights

Dear Editor:I am writing to say how much I enjoy Elsa Van Leuven's letters to the editor. In answer to her question, "Whatever happened to states' rights?", I would reply that for most of us United States citizens, states' rights lost a lot of their credibility in the 1960s when they were used as the main argument for racial segregation and the resultant violence. -- John Fitzgerald, Downey
