Starting Wednesday, Downey Unified food distribution expanding to 7 schools
DOWNEY — Downey Unified students will be able to pick up breakfast and lunch at seven school sites beginning Wednesday.
Dr. John Garcia made the announcement in a letter to parents. Below is the letter in its entirety:
Dear Downey Unified Families,
In an effort to keep you continuously informed as we navigate through these next two weeks together, I’m reaching out to update you on the continuation of the meal distribution program for our Downey Unified students as well as provide a short update on the continuity of learning plan for our students. I am happy to share that our meal distribution program started successfully today at Downey High School with a drive-thru/walk-up distribution for Downey Unified students. Tomorrow, March 17, Warren High School and Unsworth Elementary School will also be distributing free meals to our students. Please be advised that students need to be present to receive one free breakfast meal and one free lunch meal.
Beginning Wednesday, March 18 the free meal distribution program will expand and include all following sites:
Carpenter
Gauldin
Imperial
Price
Unsworth
Downey
Warren
Our free meal distribution program is for Downey Unified students from grades TK through 12 and also includes students in our Early Childhood program. It’s important to note that any Downey Unified student can obtain these meals from any school listed above.
You have our commitment that we will continue to ensure that supportive learning resources will be provided for all our students. Please make sure to check your email regularly to stay up to date with the latest information from your child’s school. If you are a high school parent, please make sure to check the Columbus, Downey or Warren websites for additional information. I also want to urge you and your student to follow your school(s) on social media as they are continuously posting updates.
In addition, please make sure to follow Downey Unified on social media as we continue to provide updates and news on those platforms as well as our website (www.dusd.net). To provide further support, we have also included links on our website for various internet providers who are offering special discounts.
Again, I can’t thank you enough for your continued support during these unprecedented times. I will continue to update you as things progress.
