Sports Briefs: Summer camps now underway
DOWNEY – The California Interscholastic Federation (C.I.F.) has released its annual All-CIF Southern Section teams for baseball, softball and boys’ volleyball.
Three Warren High School student-athletes were selected to the ALL-CIF team, one from each of the three sports previously mentioned.
In baseball, Jose Ruiz was selected ALL-CIF for Division 2. Gahr High School’s Michael Perez was the only other San Gabriel Valley League selection.
In softball, Whitney Pemberton was selected ALL-CIF for Division 3. There were no other ALL-CIF selections from the San Gabriel Valley League.
In boys’ volleyball, Gary Trejo was selected ALL-CIF for Division 3. Gahr High School’s Corey Chavers was the only other San Gabriel Valley League selection.
Coach Pearson (baseball), Coach Starksen (softball) and Coach Lane (boys’ volleyball)are extremely proud of these outstanding accomplishments and wish each student-athlete the best of luck in their bright futures.

The Warren High School football program started its summer camp Tuesday and will continue through July 17.
Camp will be Monday-Friday from 2-5:30 p.m. on the football field at Warren. Campers need to bring practice wear, water, cleats and a good attitude to practice.
The C.I.F. mandated “dead period” will be observed from July 18-Aug. 10 where no organized practices are scheduled to take place.

The Warren High School boys’ water polo program will be having their summer camp June 22 through July 26.
Practices will be held Monday-Thursday from 1:30-4 p.m. for boys ages 14-18 and the cost is $150. Freshman camp will be from 12-2 p.m. and will cost $75.
Camp registration includes instruction, training and conditioning, games, sun screen and a team t-shirt.
Games will be Monday-Thursday at various locations in mornings and evenings. Schedules will be provided. All participants must turn in a registration form and “consent to treat a minor” form.
Student athletes will learn skills necessary to play water polo and participate in water polo games.

The Warren High School wrestling program will be having their summer camp June 23 through July 30.
Practices will be held Monday-Thursday from 8-10:30 a.m. in the upstairs wrestling room at Justice Stadium. Camp is open for student-athletes ages 12-18 and the cost is $20.
Practice includes conditioning, weight lifting and wrestling techniques. Wrestlers need to bring wrestling shoes, shorts and running shoes to workouts.

The Downey High School girls’ soccer summer camp began training June 19.
The D.H.S. Day Tournament was held last Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Training took place earlier this week on June 22nd, 24th and 25th while summer league games were scheduled Tuesday and for later today.
Training will continue July 13th, 15th and 16th from 7-10 a.m. while summer league games will be July 14th and 17th.
Camp double days will be August 10-13 and will be from 7-9 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. Tryouts will be August 17-20 and will be from 2-4 p.m.

Practices on Mondays and Fridays will be from 8-10 a.m. and practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays will be from 10 a.m. to noon. Sessions are $10 per day and $75 for the unlimited summer session.
