May 22, 1928 - July 29, 2022

On the morning of July 29, 2022, Shirley Girardin passed away peacefully in her sleep. Shirley was born to Mary and Arch Brown in Detroit, Michigan on May 22, 1928. She attended Sexton High School graduating in 1946. She attended Michigan State University, majoring in Education graduating in 1950. While at MSU, she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She married the love of her life, Robert Girardin. They had 3 children, David (Sherri), Kathy (Fred) and Debbie. She taught primary grades in Michigan, Japan, Georgia and Downey for a total of 44 years. She was a member and former president of Long Beach Kappa Delta Alumnae. She was awarded the Order of the Emerald for Kappa Delta in 1999. She was a member of Long Beach Panhellenic, as well as, a member of Downey Assistance League. Shirley was the founding member of South Gate Azalea Festival from 1965 to 2000. She was crowned Azalea Queen in 1999. She was a member of the South Gate Chamber of commerce. She was associated with the Girl Scouts, South Gate Youth Band, and PTA at each of her children’s schools. She was very involved with her children’s lives. She has been a member of the Boy Scouts Mother’s club. Robert and Shirley hosted an American Field Service Student from Germany. Shirley loved to travel , with her husband, Bob. Shirley was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2018. She leaves daughters, Kathy and Debbie, 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Robert, her son, David and her parents. Shirley live a happy life. She dedicated her whole life to serving others, She is home with her Father in heaven.
