Services are Saturday for late city manager Don Davis

DOWNEY – A celebration of life for former Downey fire chief and city manager Don Davis will be held this Saturday, June 1, at noon at Vineyard Church in Laguna Niguel.

The service will also be livestreamed on the church’s YouTube channel.

Davis died May 1 at age 87.

His career in Downey started in 1958, when he was hired as a Downey firefighter. He was promoted to fire chief in 1978, leading the department until 1985.

After retiring, he was hired by the City Council to serve as city manager. He held the position until 1989, when he retired again and the city hired Gerald Caton.

“He was respected and loved by members of the Fire Department and throughout the City and he will be missed,” the Downey Fire Department posted on Facebook.

Davis was a member of the Rotary Club of Downey, serving as its president from 1987-88.

In lieu of flowers, donations were requested to Mercy House (mercywarehouse.com).
