Service academy workshop Oct. 13

DOWNEY - Local students are invited to an information workshop Oct. 13 where they can learn about our nation's five military service academies and how to obtain a congressional nomination.Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard will lead the workshop, which starts at 9:30 a.m. at the Downey City Library. Academy representatives and current students will be on-hand to answer questions about eligibility requirements, cadet life, academics, athletics and career opportunities after graduation. Service academies offer a free college education in exchange for five years of military service as a commissioned officer. The workshop is open to students, parents and the public.
