Scott Loughner named interim police chief in Downey

Scott Loughner

DOWNEY – Scott Loughner has been named interim police chief of the Downey Police Department effective Dec. 15.

Loughner, currently a captain, will serve as chief until the city hires a permanent replacement for Leslie Murray, who retired this week after 32 years with Downey.

“This appointment is an important step towards maintaining the Downey Police Department’s operational integrity and the safety of the public that will allow for a smooth transition to a permanent chief,” said city manager Roger Bradley.

Loughner was hired by the Downey Police Department in 2000 and served as a sergeant and lieutenant prior to his promotion to captain in 2021.
