DOWNEY – Student ambassadors from Rio San Gabriel Elementary School’s Character Council launched their first school-wide service project for the 2021-22 school year, collecting and donating personal hygiene products for TLC Family Resource Center.

Operated by the Downey Unified School District, TLC provides needed support to students and their families, including counseling and grief support, health services, homeless support, parental education, and more.

Each grade level at Rio San Gabriel was assigned to donate the following items:

TK/Kinder: Shampoo
Grade 1: Conditioner
Grade 2: Toothpaste
Grade 3: Toothbrushes
Grade 4: Bath Soap
Grade 5: Deodorant

Character Council Ambassadors advertised their service project through technology supported commercials via iMovie and digital fliers were created and sent out to teachers to display in class and posted on the Schoolwide Dojo application.

Rio San Gabriel families jumped at the opportunity to help those in need, collecting 568 bars of soap and body wash, 173 bottles of shampoo, 101 bottles of conditioner, 170 tubes of toothpaste, 339 sticks of deodorant, and so many toothbrushes students lost count.
