Ricky Galvez murder suspects accused of crime spree before his killing
DOWNEY – The three suspects accused of killing Downey police officer Ricky Galvez in a botched robbery are also responsible for shootings and another robbery that occurred the same night Galvez was killed, prosecutors said this week.
Galvez, 29, was killed in the police station parking lot while sitting in his personal vehicle at around 11 p.m. on Nov. 18.
Jeremy Alvarez, 21, of Montebello; Steven Knott, 18, of Montebello; and Abel Diaz, 17, of Bellflower, have been charged with his murder.
On Tuesday, prosecutors filed new charges against the trio, alleging Alvarez and Knott conducted a takeover robbery at a Bellflower cell phone store at 5 p.m. on Nov. 18.
About five hours later, the three suspects conducted another robbery in Paramount, prosecutors said. In addition, Knott is accused of firing a gun at an occupied building in South Gate in September 2015.
Prosecutors also filed attempted murder charges against a fourth suspect: 28-year-old Rebecca Ann Ustrell of Montebello. Ustrell, along with Alvarez and Knott, were tied to an Oct. 18, 2015 shooting at a Montebello convenience store.
The three male suspects remain incarcerated without bail. Ustrell is being held on $1 million bail.
All have have pleaded not guilty. Their next court appearance is set for Sept. 28.
