Residents urged to stay home as Downey reaches 72 coronavirus cases

DOWNEY — The number of known coronavirus cases in Downey continues to surge, with Monday’s number at 72.

Health officials announced 420 new cases across all of L.A. County, along with 15 deaths. Authorities are not revealing the locations the deaths occurred.

PIH Health said it was treating 21 confirmed coronavirus cases at its Downey hospital, including 10 who are hospitalized in the intensive care unit. Another 13 patients are suspected to have Covid-19.

Rising coronavirus numbers across the country prompted White House officials to urge the public to stay home.

“This is the moment not to be going to the grocery store, not going to the pharmacy, but doing everything you can to keep your family and your friends safe,” said response coordinator Deborah Birx.
