Public Works group ratifies bylaws

DOWNEY - The newly-formed Public Works Committee had its bylaws ratified Tuesday as it began its function as an advisory panel to the City Council.The volunteer group will advise the council on matters relating to public works, capital improvement programs, public utilities, traffic and transportation, and solid waste and hazardous waste disposal. Resident Maria Larkin was elected chairperson of the committee in September. The group meets the third Thursday of each month in the second floor training room at City Hall. The Public Works Committee took the place of the Health and Environmental Sanitation Committee, the Traffic Committee and the Water Board, which were dissolved in April.
