Public invited to examine Downey Unified’s new health curriculum

DOWNEY — Downey Unified invites the public to examine materials being considered for use in middle school Science and high school Health. The materials selected are in alignment with the new California Healthy Youth Act (AB 329).

Copies of the materials will be on display on the second floor of instructional service department in the Gallegos Administration Center at 11627 Brookshire Avenue, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, now through September 2.

A parent meeting will also be held on Thursday, August 29, at 4 p.m. at the Downey Unified School District’s Gallegos Administration Center at 11627 Brookshire Avenue in District Conference Center-A (DCC-A).

Previously holding two other parent meetings prior to the end of last school year, this meeting has been set as an additional opportunity for attendees to review the proposed curriculum binder allowing them to see first-hand what potentially would be implemented in middle school Science and high school Health.

The potential curriculum has been available for review since April and the Board of Education continues to discuss the possibility of this proposed curriculum; however, there is no set date for classroom implementation thus far.
