Police to discuss homelessness at block captain meeting

DOWNEY -- The Downey Police Department’s Neighborhood Watch program will hold its sixth annual block captain meeting Thursday, March 22, from 6-8 p.m. at the Barbara J. Riley Center.

Police personnel will present a panel discussion on local concerns, including homelessness. There will be time for questions from the audience.

Following the presentation, block captains will have an opportunity to discuss specific concerns related to their neighborhoods.

“This meeting is a great opportunity for residents to connect directly with our police department and learn about any crime trends in our city,” said Mayor Pro Tem Rick Rodriguez. “Homelessness is affecting many local communities and I invite you to come learn about how our city is working hard to address this issue.”

To RSVP, contact Neighborhood Watch coordinator Jenny Aguirre at (562) 904-2374 or jaguirre@downeyca.org.
