Police conducting DUI patrols in July
DOWNEY — The Downey Police Department will be conducting DUI patrols throughout the month of July in an effort to catch impaired drivers.
Drivers caught driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties for a first-time offense.
“Impaired driving is preventable,” said Downey Police Chief Leslie Murray. “It’s a choice. If you’ve been drinking or taken drugs that impair, make the right choice by finding a sober driver or alternate transportation to take you places.”
Funding for the DUI patrols was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
