Police conducting DUI checkpoint Thursday night
DOWNEY — Downey Police will hold a DUI checkpoint on Thursday, Aug. 17, starting at 8 pm at an undisclosed location in Downey.
Police officers will be looking for signs of impairment from alcohol, marijuana and drugs, including prescription and over-the-counter medications.
“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” said Downey Police Chief Leslie Murray. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety.”
Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
