Police arrest bank robbery suspect

DOWNEY - Downey police have arrested a 30-year-old Gardena man for robbing the Bank of America on Paramount Boulevard in Downey.Mark Anthony Craig was arrested for the robbery that occurred March 31 at about 11:25 a.m., police said. A man entered the bank and approached a teller window, where he simulated having a handgun, said Sgt. Randy Wells of the Downey Police Department. The man left with an undisclosed amount of cash and fled to a vehicle he had parked near the bank, Wells said. A witness was able to get a partial license plate number as the suspect drove away, Wells said. Based on surveillance video and information supplied by witnesses, Downey detectives identified Craig as a suspect. He voluntarily went to the Downey police station for questioning, according to Wells. Craig was arrested for bank robbery based on physical evidence and positive identifications from witnesses and the victim, Wells said. At the time of the robbery, Craig was on federal probation for a previous bank robbery conviction.
