Poetry chapbook to be released Dec. 18

DOWNEY – Local poetry group Poetry Matters will debut a new chapbook, “But Who’s Counting,” at its next regularly scheduled meeting, Dec. 18, at Stay Gallery. Editor Lorine Parks has collected a poem from each of the 18 featured poets who have come to read in Downey over the last 18 months.

The Downey Arts Coalition is sponsoring the publication.

“But Who’s Counting” is filled with some of the best in contemporary Southern California poetry. The poets themselves have been invited to read their poems in this gala launch.

Poetry Matters fans heard these poems at the Rives Mansion, Epic Lounge and Stay Gallery, where the book launch will be held. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.

The Dec. 18 event also celebrates the three-year anniversary of the Poetry Matters monthly series, which encourages the development of local poets. Bea and Jim Romano will be playing hammered dulcimer music and guitar.

Six of the 18 poets in the book live in Downey.
