Poet to read aloud her work

DOWNEY - Downey's emerging art scene will receive a further boost when prize-winning poet Judith Pacht reads some of her selected poetry at Mari's Wine Bar on Jan. 19.The poetry reading is sponsored by the Downey Arts Coalition. Pacht is a seasoned poet and teaches poetry workshops on subjects such as "Warping Time in Poetry." Her newest book, "Summer Hunger," won the PEN Southwest Book Award for 2011. Local poets are invited to share their work during an open mike session at 8 p.m. Pacht will read at 8:30 p.m. The audience is invited to stay afterward for informal discussion with Pacht and other poets. Admission is free.
