Perfect proposal delivered at Downey Pizza Co.

DOWNEY - When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that’s amore. Just ask newly engaged couple Bonnie Shilling and Logan Chidester.

Shilling, a native of Downey, has always had a deep-rooted enjoyment for sauce, crust, and cheese. Actually, it may be a bit of an obsession.

“I’ve always loved pizza; it’s just been a thing,” said Shilling. “My license plate says, ‘B hearts Pizza,’ my nickname with family and my email is pizza. It’s just what I love, it makes me happy.”  

So, when Chidester decided to offer up a permanent slice of his heart to his longtime girlfriend, Pizza had to be involved.

The big moment took place at Downey Pizza Company, under the guise of a dinner for Shilling’s dad.

The couple says that Downey Pizza Company was the perfect place to pop the question.

“It was mainly just to have my family there, and be in my hometown,” said Shilling. “All my favorite things combined into one special day.”

“My original idea was pizza; it always has been,” added Chidester. “If I took her to the fanciest pizza place in LA, she would’ve known…I knew that this would seem a little more regular so I could get a surprise out of her.”

It worked. Although she knew that a proposal was coming eventually, Shilling says that having it occur then and there was “a complete surprise.”

What is no surprise, however, is that there will be pizza at the wedding.

“It’ll be the main course meal,” said Chidester. “If you don’t like pizza, you’re gonna eat salad at our wedding.”
