Outgoing message from Assemblymember Cristina Garcia
Dear Friend,
I have been honored to represent you in the California State Assembly for the past decade. As most of you know, my heart is in the math classroom and my community. My road to politics started with the uprooting of corruption during the City of Bell scandal. This ultimately led to my goal of "educating, empowering, and engaging" my neighbors and elected officials to hold the government accountable and transparent to the power bestowed on them by voters. This mindset laid the foundation for my ten years in office.
As a product of the district, I know the challenges that my neighbors face and the strong work ethic that we all have. In the district, I was happy to attend community events across its nine cities to see the faces that I represent, and, more importantly, to hear and learn from you. In our State Capitol, I was proud to be from the 58th Assembly District and to advocate for good policy and funding to improve our health and quality of life. I was especially proud to host multiple governors in the district to ensure that we would be on everyone's radar moving forward.
In representing my district, my mission was to invest in the community that invested in me. It is why I started the Young Legislators and Fellows in Government program for middle and high school students and recognized those who went above and beyond for their communities through the Pride of the 58th Program and Woman of the Year. I am also grateful for the many partners that joined me in providing fun through community movie nights and essential resources through school supplies and food drives.
New leaders will be representing all of my cities, and I ask that you continue to "educate, empower, and engage" with one another because only through communication and discussions can your voice be heard and our democracy be responsive.
In keeping with my teaching days, I encourage you to review my report card which summarizes over $4.3 billion in budget accomplishments and legislation that focuses on government accountability and transparency, women, families, and children, the environment, clean air, and climate change.
I am humbled by your partnership these last ten years, and thank you for allowing my team and me the opportunity to serve and represent you. The success you see on the report card is largely because of your partnership and the amazing Team Garcia staff members and volunteers across AD 58.
Thank you for your support throughout the years.
Sincerely,
Cristina Garcia
Assemblywoman, 58th District
