Ortiz, Pemberton solidify wins in ballot update

DOWNEY – Horacio Ortiz and Dorothy Pemberton solidified their wins to the Downey City Council after updated election results were released Tuesday by the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder.

Ortiz captured 1,060 votes (52.37%) to beat Elvira Meraz (39.33%) and Ramon Casas Jr. (8.3%).

Ortiz will finish the one year remaining on the term of Blanca Pacheco, who resigned last year after she was elected to the state Assembly.

Pemberton (53.48%) defeated Gil Legaspi (37.31%) and Ernesto Valle (9.21%) to secure the seat previously held by Catherine Alvarez, who was recalled earlier this year.

Both unexpired terms expire in December 2024.
