Norwalk votes no confidence in Gascón
NORWALK – Norwalk has become the latest city to adopt a resolution declaring no confidence in Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón.
In its vote June 22, Norwalk joined 16 other cities that have issued votes of “no confidence” in Gascón, who was elected last November after defeating incumbent DA Jackie Lacey.
Gascón has vowed to put an end to the death penalty in LA County, trying juveniles as adults and eliminate all special enhancement allegations, which would make about 20,000 inmates eligible for re-sentencing consideration.
“Effective policing is necessary in order to maintain the rule of law in the community,” the city of Norwalk said in a statement. “Effective prosecution is necessary in order to ensure that law enforcement actions are necessary and appropriate, while also providing accountability for victims as well as serving as a deterrent for future criminal activity.”
