Norwalk art gallery to exhibit work on Downey artist
DOWNEY– The Mary Paxon Art Gallery in Norwalk will feature “Water Muisc/Fire Dance,” an exhibition of abstract paintings and sculptures from Downey artist Roy Anthony Shabla.
The exhibit, which runs May 10 to 28, will debut nearly a dozen new works and the second public showing of Water Music: Blue and Gray 2015.
Shabla’s reception will feature live music, art giveaways, Dave the Cowboy homebrew beers, and light refreshments. The reception will take place on Friday, May 13, from 7 to 9 p.m. and is open to the public.
Shabla is a painter and poet living in Downey. His large scale work, "Water Music: Blue and Gray 2015," was exhibited onstage opening night of the Downey Symphony Orchestra, October 2015.
That 36-foot painting is included in this show with new work from the same series. Shabla is the Director of Collections for the Downey Museum of Art and hosts a monthly salon in his home with live music, poetry readings, and featured artists.
“Water Music/Fire Dance” is available to view Tuesday-Friday, 3-7 p.m. and Saturdays 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
The Mary Paxon Art Gallery is located inside the Cultural Arts Center, adjacent to the Norwalk Arts and Sports Complex in Norwalk.
