No CPR training

Dear Editor:I just learned something about the Barbara J. Riley Community and Senior Center. There is no one on staff that is trained in CPR. Also, they have a fitness center full of exercise machinery and they do not have a "panic button" in case there is an accident in this room. You have to walk to the front desk - a long walk - to get help. If you are alone in this room, you are out of luck. I am appalled that our city officials have allowed this. At any given time during the day there is a large number of seniors in this building. What happens if someone has a heart attack or a seizure? Do not give that "budget" excuse. CPR training is free from the Red Cross. CPR ability should be a requirement when hiring. If they don't have it, you have them trained. I certainly hope this letter wakes officials up. -- Doris Hannon, Downey
