Nick Gregorio earned Purple Heart
DOWNEY - Longtime Downey resident Nick Gregorio passed away peacefully on Feb. 5 surrounded by his family. He was 94. The son of Italian immigrant parents, he was born in Linhart, Penn., where he lived with his four brothers and two sisters. During World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, served in the Normandy campaign and received both the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals.
In 1950, he moved to Downey, worked in the grocery business with his brothers and was a caregiver for his sister, Helen. He was a longtime member of the Downey Bocce Club at Apollo Park. He is survived by three brothers: Pat, Carmine and John; and 12 nieces and nephews.
A viewing is scheduled for Feb. 24 from 3-7 p.m. at Miller-Mies Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Feb. 25 at 9 a.m. at the Mortuary and 11 a.m. at Rose Hills.
