Needy families receive food, toys

WHITTIER - Three-hundred low-income families from Whittier received holiday food baskets and toys at a charitable event Dec. 21 at the Community Resource Center in South Whittier.The event was co-sponsored by Los Angeles County supervisors Gloria Molina and Don Knabe, along with several county agencies and community groups. Stephanie Talavera, a South Whittier resident, organized her family and friends to collect canned goods to fill the food boxes. "Our goal as a family is to be civically engaged in our community in order to build strong relationships," said Talavera.
