Mosquitoes in Bellflower test positive for West Nile virus
BELLFLOWER — A mosquito has tested positive for West Nile virus in Bellflower, vector officials announced.
West Nile virus activity in Los Angeles County “is off to a slow start this year,” said the Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District.
Officials, however, said they expected more activity in the hot months ahead. They also cited 445 positive mosquito samples in Southern California areas outside Los Angeles County.
There is no cure for West Nile virus, which can cause fever, headache, body aches, nausea and skin rashes. The virus can be fatal in some cases.
Mosquitoes breed wherever there is standing water, such as plant saucers, old tires, non-functional swimming pools, and air conditioner drip pans.
