Homeless Outreach Efforts
This month, the City of Downey was proud to partner with Los Angeles County and serve as the host City for the Pathway Home program. More than 60 individuals residing along the San Gabriel Riverbed in Downey and neighboring jurisdictions transitioned into safe interim housing through this initiative.
The Pathway Home program focuses on resolving encampments by connecting individuals experiencing homelessness with immediate shelter and supportive services, paving the way toward permanent housing. By utilizing local motels as interim housing, the program ensures participants have access to stable environments where they can receive case management, mental health support, and other critical resources.
This operation is one of the largest encampment resolution efforts conducted by the county. It is a collaborative effort involving the City of Downey, along with the Office of Supervisor Janice Hahn, the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), and nonprofit service providers such as PATH, City Net, and SCHARP. These partners worked together to provide services while restoring public spaces, promoting safety, and enhancing the quality of life for all residents.
