Mario Guerra to be roasted
DOWNEY – Former mayor Mario Guerra, simultaneously one of the most polarizing and beloved public figures in Downey history, has agreed to be roasted by community leaders on Friday, Jan. 23, at Stay Gallery. Guerra and other former mayors will be subjected to comedic insults, jokes and heartwarming tributes.
Tickets are $75 (food and drinks included). All proceeds will benefit Stay Gallery’s programs and initiatives.
“Stay Gallery Downey has been a great partner with our city in highlighting the arts and culture of our community. Their work with our kids and school district and programming about our history and art is pretty cool,” said Guerra. “That’s why I’ve consented to be roasted on January 23 with all the proceeds literally staying home for Stay Gallery Downey. Food [will be provided] by Lock ‘n Key (they do some great things too).
“While I am very proud of many things we accomplished during my terms as mayor and councilman, there are many things that they will be able to roast me on too (laughs). I’m getting nervous thinking about it already. It should be a fun night with several other former mayors and it all goes towards a good cause. I hope to see you there.”
