Mariachi Divas Christmas show returns to Downey

DOWNEY — The Grammy Award winning Mariachi Divas are bringing their popular, high-energy Christmas concert to the Downey Theatre on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 8 pm.

The Divas are local favorites, having twice sold-out previous concerts at the Downey Theatre.

Band leader Cindy Shea, a classically trained world-class trumpet player, delivers top notch musicianship with a splash of flash: Her shows are fast paced, engaging and entertaining, and appeal to both traditional and modern mariachi fans.

In 2009, the Divas became the first all-female mariachi band ever to be nominated for a Grammy Award, and the first to win one. The band has been nominated for seven Grammy awards, winning twice.

Founded in 1999, they are the official mariachi band of the Disneyland resort and a fixture at Disney’s “California Adventure” and have performed at official events ranging from state luncheons for former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to the presidents of Mexico and South Korea.

The Divas have appeared in mainstream Hollywood films, and two of their songs are featured on Hallmark cards. In addition, they have collaborated with Joan Sebastian, Jenni Rivera, Marco Antonio Solis, Paulina Rubio, and Mariachi Vargas, and have had numerous television appearances.

Tickets range from $40-$55 and are on sale now at the theatre box office, by calling (562) 861-8211 or online at www.DowneyTheatre.org.
