Major Gary Frank Medrano Sr.

Major Gary Frank Medrano Sr. U.S.M.C. Retired, 82, was born on March 26, 1940 in Salida, Colorado to Predy Martinez and Dan Medrano. Gary Medrano entered into eternal rest on November 28, 2022 in Downey, California.
Gary proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for 20 dedicated years and was honored with the Purple Heart as well as several other commendations for Merit and Valor. Gary was intelligent and hardworking, helping many people and making lifelong friends in his years of service.
Gary enjoyed his early morning 5:00 AM visits to the doughnut shop where he would catch up with his friends. He loved Westerns, driving around in his car listening to Julio Iglesias and reminding his family that he was in charge. He was the leader of his family up to the end of his days.
Major Medrano’s Memorial Mass will take place on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at 10:00am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Downey. He was interred at Riverside National Cemetery on December 12, 2022 at 11:45am with Military Honors. The Patriot Guard Riders escorted him from Risher Mortuary to the cemetery.
Gary is survived by his Wife of 58 years, Rose Medrano, Sons, Gary Medrano Jr. and John Medrano (Victoria), Daughter, Maureen Medrano-Castro (Eduardo), Grandsons, Michael Medrano and Sgt. U.S.M.C Jonathon Medrano, Brother, Robert Medrano, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Gary was greeted at Heaven’s Gate by his brothers, Richard and Adrian Medrano. He will be missed by all who loved and knew him.
