Low-cost vaccinations available Wednesday
DOWNEY – Downey Unified students without health insurance or who are not covered by Medi-Cal can receive low cost immunizations Wednesday, May 18, from 1-3 p.m. at Sussman Middle School.
The cost of the TDAP vaccine, which will be administered by a registered nurse from PIH Health, is $5.
The vaccination clinic is sponsored by True Lasting Connections Family Resource Center and PIH Health.
"We are very excited to have a partnership with PIH Health because through this collaboration we are able to bring health services to our most vulnerable students," said Luz Perez, TLC coordinator. "By bringing the services to the students, it helps ensure that they are ready to enroll into school in the fall."
The TDAP immunization law, which became effective in 2011, requires that students in grades 7-12 receive one dose of the TDAP vaccine before entering school.
TDAP is a combination vaccine that protects against tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis.
