Longtime resident Leonard Feiereisen dies at 101
DOWNEY -- Longtime Downey resident Leonard Charles Feiereisen, 101, died Sept. 9 from complications of pneumonia. He was born in Cedar Rapids, Linn County, Iowa on July 17, 1916.
Leonard’s grandparents emigrated from Luxembourg in the 1880s and settled in Chicago. His father, Michael, later moved to Cedar Rapids where he married Leonard’s mother, Mary.
Leonard married Dorothy May Tiffany on Dec. 27, 1935. Their daughter, Barbara, was born the next year and they soon moved to Downey and became long-time residents.
After his retirement, he and his wife traveled extensively and eventually celebrated 69 years of marriage.
Leonard is survived by a first cousin, Susan Tiffany, of Oregon, and a third cousin, Rita Mangler, of Iowa. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Mary (Stastny) Feiereisen, his wife, Dorothy (Tiffany) Feiereisen, his daughter, Barbara Feiereisen, and his sister, Jeanette Dvorak.
Funeral services were held Sept. 18 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Whittier. Burial followed at Rose Hills Memorial Park where he was laid to rest next to his wife, Dorothy, and his other family members.
