Lockdown deemed false alarm by officials
DOWNEY - An incident with a suspected armed person on the campus of Columbus High School was deemed a false alarm and “no threat” by Downey Police Wednesday morning.
Reports of a person on campus began coming in sometime between the hours of 9 and 10 am. According to Downey Unified Public Relations Coordinator Ashley Greaney, Columbus and the surrounding campuses were quickly placed on lockdown, and DPD responded “within seconds.”
According to district staff, the suspected gun was actually training weapon, used for one of the Downey Adult School security classes.
DUSD released a statement shortly after the lockdown was lifted, saying, “As this is was thankfully a false alarm, all Columbus High School students and staff are safe.”
