Library’s December auction items

DOWNEY – The Friends of the Downey City Library holds monthly silent book auctions in order to raise money to help support the various programs of the library. This month’s auction items include:

“The Great Book of Currier and Ives’s America” (more than 400 illustrations of American life);

“Noah’s Ark Full of Animals” (a charming pop-up book with cutout animals);

“National Geographic-Almanac of American History” (an authoritative resource with narration, time lines and illustrations);

“Magical Christmas Tales” (16 stories, classic carols and beautiful illustrations);

“The Unicorn” (beautiful illustrations reflect unicorn lore from China to Europe, from ancient time to the present);

“Taste of Home-Celebrations Cookbook” (recipes for all seasons and occasions);

“Odyssey: The Art of Photography at National Geographic” (pictures by leading 19th and 20th century photographers);

“Precious Moments Bible” (New King James Version, illustrated family edition);

“Sports Illustrated-The Baseball Book” (pictures, games and statistics from baseball’s early beginning up to the modern era);

“Complete Cartoons of the New Yorker” (all 68,647 cartoons ever published in the New Yorker magazine);

“Disney’s Art  of Animation” (from Mickey Mouse to Hercules); Kindle DX (previously in the library’s inventory, in good condition, has all Kindle standard features).

Items have opening bids from $4-$25 and are on display in the library lobby. Bids can be made through noon on Saturday, Dec. 13, on cards in the Friends’ Bookstore, which is located in the young adult section of the library.

In addition, this month the Friends received a large donation of DVDs of hit TV series. Included are the series “Weeds.” “Mash,” “West Wing,” “Dallas,” “The Bob Newhart Show” and many others.

These are on sale now in their bookstore for $3-$5.
