Library taking bids for silent auction items
DOWNEY – The Friends of the Downey City Library holds monthly silent auctions to raise money for library programs. June’s items include:
“Fragments: Poems, Intimate Notes, and Letters of Marilyn Monroe” (includes lots of photos and stories);
“Cars 1886-1930” (covers the development of gasoline engines as well as steam and electric power);
“Make Me-A Jack Reacher Novel” (the latest thriller in the Jack Reacher series);
“Dream Destinations-The World’s Most Unforgettable Places” (lavishly illustrated, includes traveler tips and practical advice);
“America’s National Parks” (our parks from both an historical and aesthetic perspective with lots of pictures);
“Encyclopedia Prehistorica-Sharks and Other Sea Monsters” (full of captivating facts enhanced by 35 pop-ups; entertaining for children and adults);
“Everyday Italian” (fresh, simple recipes that are incredibly quick to make and perfect for everyday cooking);
“Picasso-60 Years of Graphic Works” (featured here is the entire body of his work in graphics, including dry points, etchings, linoleum cuts, lithographs and woodcuts);
“Container Gardening Through the Year” (learn how to select containers, plants, and soil and how to make everything work together);
“The Iliad-The Odyssey” (Homer’s two epic poems are contained in this volume);
“The Golden Years of Baseball” (captures all the glory of baseball at its finest with more than 400 photographs, statistical charts and fact-packed text);
“…and Ride Away Singing” (the story of the development of the Arabian horse in America)
Books have opening bids from $5-$8 and are on display in the library lobby. Bids can be made through noon, Saturday June 25, on cards in the Friend’s Bookstore located in the young adult section of the library.
