Library book festival draws hundreds of kids

DOWNEY - Nearly 300 kids enjoyed the 18th annual StoryTime festival at the Downey City Library, presented by the Gypsy Johnson Auxiliary of the Assistance League of Downey.The festival included informal book readings to children; a health and fitness center sponsored by the Downey YMCA; an educational puppet show performed by Assistance League members; and face painting by the Assisteens. The event was open to the public and every child who attended received a free book as part of the Assistance League's commitment to promote childhood literacy.
