Library accepting food for fines

DOWNEY – Between now and Dec. 31, the Downey City Library is accepting canned food donations in lieu of cash fines. Each canned food item will be valued at 50 cents, with the maximum fine deduction amount of $25.

The library will accept canned food from everyone, not just those who owe fines. All donations will be distributed to local needy families by Downey Council PTA HELPS.
