Letter to the Editor: Valet parking at the Promenade

Dear Editor:

Last week I had the opportunity to go to The Promenade with my family for dinner. I was surprised at the lack of parking because it was a Thursday night. That is, I was surprised until I noticed that the valet lot cordoned off approximately 100 spaces, of which only about a dozen were being used.

I can understand the logic of wanting to add a further revenue stream by offering the valet service. But what I find disturbing is trying to create the demand for that service by reserving a vastly overstated, and underutilized, number of spaces so the public has more trouble finding a space in the open lot.

If the desire is to get the folks in Downey to embrace this new venue for dining and shopping, someone had better get a better feel for what we want and expect.
